Chuanjin Sun's ZY Foot Spa: A Tranquil Oasis in the Urban Jungle

Winner of the Prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2022

Chuanjin Sun's inspiration for the ZY Foot Spa design stems from the desire to create a peaceful sanctuary within the city. Amid the noise and chaos of urban living, the spa serves as a reminder of the gifts that nature brings, often forgotten in the rush of daily life. The design's unique properties lie in its orderly rules that permeate the entire interior space, from the entrance to the third floor. The reception area's mirror reflects a long bar counter with special-shaped illusion colors, creating a psychedelic world reminiscent of an inception space.

The spa's unique artistic bamboo installation extends from the entrance, through the stairs, all the way to the third floor. The bamboo's transparent and quiet texture is natural and kind, softening the space. The design realization technology incorporates traditional elements from the Zhuji region, including bamboo weaving, sequence of wood grille, and natural surface stone. These elements are sublimated in the design, creating a modern and fashionable character.

The project covers a total of 2400 square meters, with the design team consisting of Chief Designer Chuanjin Sun, Assistant Designer Jian Wang, and Tian Zhang. The spa's design interaction is highlighted by the stairs leading to the third floor, connected by flying bamboo weaves. The regular sense of volume and the bright white light strips contrast with each other, outlining the architectural vision's orderliness. The hollowed-out texture paves the relationship between light and shadow, creating a hazy atmosphere.

The project started in December 2019 in Zhuji and finished in July 2020. During the design process, the team faced challenges such as a large number of overhanging structures in the space. However, through communication and adjustment, the designers decided to use the steel structure of the protruding area to achieve the largest bearing scale, strictly controlling the steel structure's thickness to maintain the overall visual aesthetics.

The ZY Foot Spa design activates the spatial magnetic field with the translucent visual experience. The overlapping of the vertical space and the infinite reflection of the horizontal space imbue the design with a sense of space ritual, exploring the origin of art and shaping the space art experience. This design was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2022, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
